The Tondagattan are an indigenous community living in Sri Lanka. Their ancestors were the Vedda people who were the original people of Sri Lanka. Most live in the eastern districts of Batticaloa, Ampara and Trincomalee. They speak a Sinhala dialect which has elements of the Tamil and Vedda languages.
The Tondagattan people were traditionally hunters and food gatherers. Some were farmers who also relied on the food they could gather from the sea and the forest.
Officially the Tondagattan are Buddhist, but they retain many of their traditional religious practices.
Today they face the challenge of being assimilated into the larger population and losing their cultural practices.
Pray for loving gospel workers to catch a vision for reaching the Tondagattan people for Jesus and that in God's sovereign timing the hearts of these people would be open and ready to follow him.
Pray for Jesus movements to bless extended families so the gospel will spread rapidly.
Pray for the spiritual lives of the Tondagattan people to become fruitful so others will be drawn to Jesus Christ.
